My College Path

Many may be wondering what it is I am going to college for and why. Hopefully this will help in understanding what my plans are.

My short-term goal (as in “over the next ten years”) was to get a bachelors degree in English Literature at CNU, Christopher Newport University. Before CNU, however, I was earning my associates degree, majoring in English, at Thomas Nelson Community College.

The semester of Fall of 2011 — I took English 111, college composition; Math 3, a pre-algebra class; SDV, a college success skills course; and Psychology 200.

The semester of Spring of 2012 — I took English 112, college comp.; Math IV, my last pre-algebra class; Principles of Nutrition 138; and Public Speaking 100.

The semester of Summer of 2012 — I took College Algebra 158 as an 8 week course.

The semester of Fall of 2012 — I took Statistics 240 for the full 16 weeks, but due to Baby Ross who was on the way it was the only class I took.

The semester of Spring of 2013 — I took Developmental Psychology 230 online so that I could be home with my handsome baby boy.

What am I going to do with my degree? Well, there are a lot of options out there for me. By the time I have my bachelors I’ll probably have some kids, so the first thing I’m going to do is homeschool them. Once they hit High School, I could go in for a masters, and then even a doctorate. After schooling is over, or even if I don’t go for a higher degree, I could go into teaching or tutoring. Of all my options, so far my favorite is tutoring. I like the idea of having flexibility so that I can focus on other areas of my life.

By then, who knows what will be going on?

Edit: I am currently taking a break from college. I think the reasons are quite obvious right now — Adam was on deployment and I had two kids in tow at home. I do intend on returning to class in the near future (online while we are in San Diego, or transferring to a community college here). When and how are two major questions. Right now, life is pretty busy!
